Embassy of Switzerland in Greece

As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.

• Entering Switzerland

  Greek citizens can enter Switzerland with a valid passport or with a valid identity card. For more information

• Προσωρινή ελληνική άδεια διαμονής που δεν επιτρέπει την είσοδο στην Ελβετία / Provisional Greek residence permit not admitted to enter Switzerland

  Το Προξενείο μας δέχεται συχνά ερωτήματα σχετικά με την εγκυρότητα της ελληνικής προσωρινής άδειας διαμονής, που ονομάζεται επίσης : ΒΕΒΑΙΩΣΗ ΚΑΤΑΘΕΣΗΣ ΑΙΤΗΣΗΣ ΓΙΑ ΕΚΔΟΣΗ ΑΔΕΙΑΣ ΔΙΑΜΟΝΗΣ.
  

  Επισημαίνεται ότι οι υπήκοοι τρίτων χωρών που κατέχουν αυτή την προαναφερθείσα προσωρινή άδεια, η οποία εκδίδεται κατά τις περιόδους ανανέωσης των επίσημων αδειών διαμονής, ΔΕΝ ΕΠΙΤΡΕΠΕΤΑΙ ΝΑ ΤΑΞΙΔΕΥΟΥΝ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΛΒΕΤΙΑ. Θα πρέπει να περιμένουν μέχρι να λάβουν την επίσημη άδεια διαμονής για να κινηθούν και πάλι ελεύθερα εντός του χώρου Σένγκεν, καθώς η Πρεσβεία μας δεν εκδίδει βραχυπρόθεσμες θεωρήσεις για τέτοιες περιπτώσεις.

  Ως υπενθύμιση, ο συνήθης κανόνας έχει ως εξής :
  

  Οι πολίτες που δεν είναι πολίτες της ΕΕ/ΕΖΕΣ και διαμένουν στην Ελλάδα ή σε άλλη χώρα Σένγκεν απαλλάσσονται από την υποχρέωση θεώρησης. Δεν χρειάζονται βίζα για να ταξιδέψουν στην Ελβετία εάν έχουν στην κατοχή τους και τα δύο παρακάτω έγγραφα :

  • έγκυρη άδεια διαμονής που έχει εκδοθεί από κράτος μέλος του Σένγκεν ή έγκυρη θεώρηση Σένγκεν τύπου Γ ή εθνική θεώρηση τύπου Δ και
  • έγκυρο εθνικό διαβατήριο αναγνωρισμένο από την Ελβετία.

  Provisional Greek residence permit not admitted to enter Switzerland

  Our Chancellery receives frequently enquiries concerning the validity of the Greek provisional residence permit, also called : ΒΕΒΑΙΩΣΗ ΚΑΤΑΘΕΣΗΣ ΑΙΤΗΣΗΣ ΓΙΑ ΕΚΔΟΣΗ ΑΔΕΙΑΣ ΔΙΑΜΟΝΗΣ / Veveosi katathesis aitisi gia ekdosi adeias diamonis.

  Please note that third country nationals in possession of this provisional above mentioned permit, which is issued during periods of renewal of official residence permits, ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TRAVEL TO SWITZERLAND. They have to wait until they receive the official residence permit to move freely within the Schengen area again, as our Embassy is not issuing short term visas for such cases.

  As a reminder, the standard rule goes as follow :
  

  Non EU/EFTA citizens who reside in Greece or in another Schengen country are exempted from visa requirements. They do not require a visa to travel to Switzerland if they are in possession of both below listed documents :

  • a valid residence permit issued by a Schengen member state or a valid Schengen visa type C or a national visa type D and
  • a valid national passport recognized by Switzerland.
